Re-creating Natural Systems and Sustainable Open Spaces
Natural Open Space Areas in residential communities can be so much more than only serving nature conservation. These multi-faceted areas often interface and co-exist with parks and public landscape amenities, support WSUDs that filter stormwater and provide a natural buffer to diminish the severity of natural events that impact on residential communities.
We ask a lot from these bushland areas and they are a true asset in more ways than one. What are the challenges and opportunities to design, create and build natural spaces that are robust, can function ecologically, look appealing and also sustain the new recreational demands of modern communities.
