Austinville Landcare Group

Austinville Landcare Group has identified a two kilometre section of the Upper Mudgeeraba Creek as a high priority for the management of environmental weeds and riparian restoration.

Bushcare Services was commissioned to undertake a comprehensive survey of the catchment with the aim to:

  1. Identifying the range of vegetation communities within the catchment.
  2. Identifying and accurately mapping threats to those communities.
  3. Producing a plan of management to allow the most efficient use of resources in achieving the goals of the Austinville Landcare Group.

Working together with a broad range of stakeholders, the project was achieved in 4 stages:

  1. Liaison with the Austinville Landcare Group to understand community priorities and to utilise local knowledge in the survey of the catchment.
  2. Thoroughly survey using GPS ground survey and aerial map interpretation to form an accurate assessment of the catchment threats.
  3. Development of a strategic and workable management plan that brings together community resources, professional regenerators, education program and a special threat abatement plan for the weed of concern - Madeira vine.
  4. Final consultation with major stakeholders to bring about an agreed consensus and agenda before presenting the plan for implementation.
