Location: Varsity Lakes
Bushcare Services is contracted to assist with the restoration of the Reedy Creek Conservation Reserve and wetland at Varsity Lakes.
The 17 hectare property consists of three major vegetation communities situated around an artificial wetland. The property provides an important remaining habitat within the southern Gold Coast in an area that experiences rapid population growth. It is now the green lungs of an urban environment. It provides opportunities for recreation, nature education and habitat for wetland birds and fauna such as macropods and koalas.
Bushland weeds have now been contained and the property is under an ongoing maintenance program by Bushcare Services. Major infestations contained woody weeds including Lantana, Devil's Fig and Wild Tobacco. To see the site today is an amazing transformation with a diversity of natural regeneration emerging and fauna utilising a new habitat.
